Data Analytics and Imaging (DAI) Group
accesses complex datasets and leverages external technologies to enable advanced imaging applications. Advanced Analytics can be used to generate actionable insights from meaningful data at scale to accelerate R&D and improve patient outcomes. By leveraging advanced image analytics and data on cutting-edge data platforms, we develop innovative tools that enable faster and more accurate detection, characterization and monitoring of complex diseases across therapeutic areas. We aim to accelerate and improve the drug development process by:

  • Accelerating or eliminating manual central review, reducing costs, subjectivity, and variability

  • Developing more informative and robust endpoints

  • Improved diagnostic tools

  • Creating automated assessments for RWD

  • Creating tools to help clinicians to select optimal therapies

In this position you will

  • Collaborate with internal imaging- and data scientists and external vendors to derive and validate novel imaging solutions in support of clinical drug development and RWD evidence generation

  • Contribute to the development of Machine Learning and/or Computer Vision algorithms applied to Digital Pathology

  • Work on algorithm development and validation tasks, for instance End-to-end classification/regression, segmentation, registration, radiomics and feature extraction, in Digital Pathology

  • Develop and apply AI/CV methods for patient screening, diagnosis, disease assessment, evaluation of the therapeutic efficacy and/or safety, prediction of prognosis and/or response to therapy with significant business and scientific impact

  • Continually search for opportunities to automate workflows and streamline processes

What else do you need in your toolbox?

  • Strong programming skills in Python, hands-on experience of Deep Learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras)

  • Experience with medical imaging data format and image processing

  • Understanding of end-to-end ML/DL/AI project management steps like data engineering, computing/storage resource budgeting, model training, model selection and model evaluation

  • Familiarity with cloud/scientific computing environments (AWS, HPC) is a plus

  • Experience with computer vision techniques applied to medical imaging is a plus

You are currently enrolled at university in Master or PhD studies, or you have graduated with a Master’s degree within 12 months before the start of the internship in an applied quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Bioengineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research.

The internship will take place in Basel.

This internship is not suitable for a Master's thesis.
